PDN Magazine features our new portfolio in Right Stuff section
“Sean Busher has come up with a portfolio book that integrates new technology with tried-and-true marketing tools,” say Jacqueline Tobin in Photo District News Magazine’s October 2011 issue. The feature article discusses our approach to merging a traditional print portfolio with an iPad for video playback and enhanced interactivity.
Charlotte Magazine: City's Most Innovative Artists
Sean is featured in Charlotte Magazine’s September cover story about “the city’s most innovative artists.” The online edition provides additional excerpts from the Q&A interview, including Sean’s one-sentence description of Charlotte’s cultural scene: “It’s like a seed of a tall pine being planted in welcoming soil, preparing to root in and shade its neighbors from the harsh, unforgiving rays of corporate obedience.”

Our new print/iPad portfolios have arrived!!
These new books have been in the works for six months, seems like the hard work has paid off! The portfolio has the best of both worlds: large physical prints for seeing the work really big, and an iPad for our video and animation work (plus behind the scenes, additional images, etc., etc.). It even has a credit card sized external speaker for more amplification in louder rooms. A special thanks to Nicole Andersen at NA Book Arts (www.nabookarts.com) - she and her team did a fabulous job!
See the flip-through of the books and the CGI Demo Reel v1.0 in the video below.
Winners - 2011 City Block Project
This is the 2nd year for the Charlotte City Block Project, a 24-hour photography event and contest created by Sean with the Light Factory Paparazzi. The project was created in order to document the evolution of uptown Charlotte and to be a catalyst of networking and education among photographers in the region. This year's block featured the NASCAR Hall of Fame and was a great success! Here are the winners, which are chosen by the participants themselves:
Behind the Scenes
Had a good time shooting a couple models and a Mini today. Here's a behind the scenes peak into our day...
Sean Busher is now serving on the board of The Light Factory
The Light Factory is one of only four museums in the United States that promote the power of image through photography and film, featuring large-scale exhibitions of photography and digital video art, year-round screenings and major film events, as well as more than 90 classes in photography and filmmaking, and life-changing outreach programs. Sean is very excited to serve on the board of this wonderful cultural institution!

New Skyline Image for a Good Cause
We just donated this very unique skyline image of Charlotte to three great causes: Sustain Charlotte, The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte and one of our favorite clients, Charlotte Center City Partners. Sustain Charlotte is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring, informing, and advancing sustainability across the Charlotte region. An amazing community activist who is also my friend, Shannon Binns, is the creator and director of the organization. This image will be featured on the cover of a new informative brochure (printed on chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer recycled fiber that is also certified by Green Seal and by SmartWood for FSC Standards, of course!) coming out in a few weeks. Learn more here:http://www.sustaincharlotte.org.
The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte, which provides families a safe, comfortable “home away from home” while receiving medical treatment at local hospitals, is being rebuilt and is scheduled to open in March of 2011. This skyline image will be featured art in the new home. Learn more here: http://www.rmhofcharlotte.org.
On the Road Again with Bank of America
We’re about 75% done with our Bank of America project for 2010 and I thought I’d share a bit about where we’ve been and where we’re going for this massive corporate gig. The map above shows it visually, but here is the list of all the teams/venues we’re visiting this year:
Texas Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Kansas Speedway, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicagoland Speedway, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, LA Dodgers, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Washington Redskins, Miami Homestead Speedway, Dallas Cowboys, Infineon Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Sarah, Bethany and Marge at Bank of America and SportsMark have been awesome to work with as usual (this is our 4th year working on this project). A big thanks to them for allowing our crew to get a chance to see so much of this awesome country.
Speaking of traveling, below are a few photos from our favorite side trip this year. These were taken while Heather and I stayed in a yurt on an alpaca farm in New Hampshire. While there we saw an alpaca give birth, a chicken lay an egg, and all sorts of other amusing and interesting farm happenings. What an awesome experience!
The Wilderness Project
www.thewildernessdowntown.com
Sometimes art is so remarkable that it brings tears to my eyes. It happened for me at Cirque du Soleil’s Love show in Vegas, and it often happens during great music or moments of inspiration. It happened just now when I saw the Wilderness Downtown project, a project that converges the latest in technology in both web design and mapping, great video capture, great music, and one awesome concept. I’m a big fan of great collaboration and this is a great example. Just thought I’d share, hope you like….
Capturing BIG Images
The post from http://www.workbook.com/blog/1106 …. I was in Texas shooting for a couple days at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. As a football fan and a fantasy football player (who happened to go 15-0 in my fantasy league last year!), I was well aware of all the excitement people felt over the new $1.3 billion stadium. After spending two days inside I could see why, the place is architecturally beautiful and, even while empty, is totally intense. The LCDs, the scoreboard, the dome, it’s something I wanted to try to capture in a unique way. Peter Godshall, our CGI artist/retoucher, and I are always trying to push the envelope to expand our capabilities. We used the opportunity to create a 3D spherical panoramic HDR image from the 50 yard line. It took over 100 photos to create the file. This project allows us to pull individual panoramas, as seen in this image, or it can be used for 3D purposes. For instance, if an agency wanted to show a vehicle at the 50 yard line we would have all the information necessary to take their CG vehicle and make every reflection and shadow look precisely right for that environment. It’s so much fun to constantly challenge ourselves and it always astounds me how quickly new capabilities will find their way into a project just around the corner.
Super-duper awesomeness.
I’m adding this to the About Us section of our website…
I was just sitting in the grass relishing in a rather perfect moment. I was surrounded by so many of my favorite things that I decided to take a picture with my camera-phone. We had several days off between jobs in Los Angeles so I went down to Santa Monica beach to relax. On the way I picked up an overpriced-yet-totally-delicious salad from Whole Foods, as well as some peach tea and a dark chocolate bar (all organic). As I sat there basking in the perfect southern-California sun and journaling about some upcoming projects I was struck with total bliss. I thought, how awesome is it that I love my job and feel appreciated by the people I get to work with? Totally awesome. How great is it that I get to help take new concepts, services and inventions to the masses? Super-duper awesome. So, I thought I would share this moment with you as a way to learn a bit about me, and to also inspire anyone out there feeling in a rut to start moving towards what brings them joy because everyone deserves every bit of the peace and fulfillment this life has to offer.
A "Must See" in LA
I got to visit the Photographer of the Year awards exhibit again this year at The Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles. Having a photojournalism background myself, I have such great respect for these photographers and their storytelling abilities. A truly remarkable space and show, I highly recommend it for anyone in the area (seriously go - Century City area, free admission and cheap parking).
West Coast Sunset
Smells like success!
Scratch 'n' Sniff promo cards get the attention of Danielle Currier, author of No Plastic Sleeves. An interview with our agent, Melissa Hennessey.
Monsters in baseball?
While working at Fenway Park today in Boston, I got the opportunity to go behind the Green Monster (supposedly, according to Boston.com, it’s the hardest spot to get to in the city). Enjoyed the day!
